Why GNM-23

Built different from every other delay plugin

5-Chip BBD Chain

Real bucket brigade modeling with progressive bandwidth reduction, chip-specific noise floor, and analog clock artifacts per stage.

Compander Circuit

Authentic 2:1 compression before BBD and 1:2 expansion after. Models the signal-dependent breathing and pumping of the original hardware.

Echo & Reverb Modes

Dual operating modes from the original hardware. Echo with rhythmic repeats, Reverb with asymmetric multi-tap mixing for lush spatial effects.

Self-Oscillation

Push the Regeneration knob past unity for authentic self-oscillation — spiraling feedback tamed by analog soft saturation.

DAW Sync + Divisions

Lock to your DAW tempo with musical divisions (1/4, 1/8, triplets, dotted, swing). Or go free with the original continuous delay knob.

Neural Network Ready

RTNeural integration slot for trained analog character models. Capture the exact nonlinearities of a specific vintage unit.

How It Works

From original schematics to your DAW

1

Insert on Any Track

Load GNM-23 as a VST3 plugin on any track. Mono in, stereo out — just like the original 1981 hardware.

2

Choose Echo or Reverb

Echo mode gives rhythmic repeats with adjustable time and feedback. Reverb mode mixes all BBD taps for lush spatial depth.

3

Shape Your Sound

Dial in regeneration, tone, and modulation. Change parameters while playing — the BBD pitch glide responds exactly like the real hardware.

Pannello Advanced DSP

Expandable "ADV" panel with 8 configurable parameters. All defaults match the original VRS-23 behavior.

Tone Filter

5 selectable types: 1-Pole LP, 2-Pole LP, SVF Low Pass, SVF Band Pass, SVF High Pass — plus Resonance control.

Feedback

Potentiometer curve (linear to cubic, continuous) and maximum regeneration level.

Clock Glide

Glide time from 10 to 1000ms — controls the delay transition speed for pitch shift effects.

Character

Feedback color (progressive darkening of repeats), harmonic saturation, and analog character (noise floor + TDA1097 harmonics).

New in v1.0.2

What's new in v1.0.2

First stable release: quadratic depth curve, refined regeneration, and native macOS support.

Mono / Stereo Input

New selector next to the INPUT control: choose between Mono (a single VRS-23 chain faithful to the 1981 hardware) or Stereo (two parallel VRS-23 units with independent per-channel feedback). In Stereo mode the delay opens across the entire stereo field, preserving pan and L/R details without the comb-filter artifact typical of delays that sum to mono. Perfect for panoramic drums, stereo synths and rhythmic loops with movement.

More musical and incisive filters

The multi-mode filter (1-Pole LP, 2-Pole LP, SVF LP/BP/HP) now covers the full audible range 20 Hz – 20 kHz: HP fully open at zero, LP completely bypassed at max. The Resonance knob works across all filter types with a Moog-ladder-style curve that colors without excessive ringing. SVF modes have internal saturation in the resonance loop that makes the sweep "sing" like a TB-303 or H-Delay. The Band-Pass is tighter and present even at low Resonance.

Cleaner high regeneration

At Regeneration above 50% with LP filters, the delay no longer produces that sub drone that sustains itself detached from the track: a passive mitigation typical of the original hardware (coupling capacitors + NE570 chip squelch) is now replicated in the digital emulation.

DAW projects saved correctly

Reopening a DAW project that uses GNM-23, all interface controls — including Echo/Reverb, Mono/Stereo, Sync selectors and Division buttons — return exactly as you left them. No setting "lost" on reopening.

FAQ

Domande Frequenti

GNM-23 is a VST3 plugin that faithfully emulates a legendary 1981 analog BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) delay and reverb unit. Every circuit component is modeled from the original hardware schematics — 10 BBD TDA1097 chips, NE570 compander circuit, VCO clock generator, and analog tone filter.
RTNeural is an open-source neural network inference engine optimized for real-time audio. GNM-23 includes an RTNeural slot for loading trained analog character models.
Not for audio processing. You only need internet for: license activation (first time), periodic heartbeat (every 30 days), and checking for updates.
The VST3 plugin takes up about 4MB. No additional software, servers, or AI models required.
GNM-23 is a lightweight DSP plugin. It uses less than 1% CPU. No GPU required. Works on Windows 10+, macOS 11+, and Linux.
Bucket brigade devices store audio as analog charges. When you change the clock speed, all the charges shift — creating the unmistakable pitch glide.
